Rosina, hi,
You mentioned nasolabial folds and having noticeable ones that you have restylane in. Is the fold you have the same as nl lines? I can't see any lines at all on your face. I have lines running from the nose to the corners of my lips, but these are actual vertical wrinkles. Does restylane get rid of these and did you have them?

Rosina, hi, You mentioned nasolabial folds and having noticeable ones that you have restylane in. Is the fold you have the same as nl lines? I can't see any lines at all on your face. I have lines running from the nose to the corners of my lips, but these are actual vertical wrinkles. Does restylane get rid of these and did you have them? Hello Willows, I have never actually had a wrinkle in the NL area. I think there are two separate NL issues: parenthesis lines as you have (often called laugh lines) and a deep cleft due to the arrangement of the facial muscles/jaw, or descending cheek fat due to gravity. In my case, the upper frontal portion of my jaw is "underdeveloped." I have large smile corridors as my upper palate is very long and thin. (Smile corridors are the dark gaps some people have at the sides of their smile if their jaw isn't wide at the front, but instead curves back sharply.) This presents as deep nasolabial clefts. I have these filled with Radiesse (hydroxyapatite microspheres suspended in a gel-like solution). The Radiesse lasted 11 months! That's really impressive as Restylane disappeared within four months. The little lines that you have can easily be filled with Resty or Juvéderm.

My NL's are more or less caused by the loss of volume in my cheek area. I once had very prominent cheeks and they were a source of many compliments. My cheek pads have literally sunken towards my mouth causing a type of pouch between where my cheek pads used to be and my mouth....thus causing a trench to form down the middle of my cheek and the parenthesis lines as well. I've had Juvederm in my NL's twice in the last year. Once in Sept of 08 and once in Feb of this year. As of now, the filler is still going strong and holding up nicely. So 7 months later, I am not in need of any filler yet. I think dermal fillers are fantastic....of course it doesn't solve the actual problem of cheek sagging, but it is a great way to lessen the look of it. Ultimately I will be getting a mid-face lift, not positive as to when I will finally get it, but the dermal fillers will be used in the meantime to soften the problem.

Justabout, if that is you in the pic, you are beautiful. I see cheeks and not folds. Have you tried Lou Lou's facial exercises? I found they elevated my cheeks quite dramatically. I don't do the crush as it really hurts my face and I think others have found it accentuates the NL folds, but the exercises designed to address the zygomaticus major and minor, and the risorius muscle (to enhance the zygomatic arch area) all lift the cheeks to some degree. I also find they give me huge confidence that I am in control of my facial structures. That said, I would certainly get a mid facelift too if the exercises and filler didn't resolve the issue.

Yes, Justabout40, you are very lovely. Why do we always see our flaws and not the beauty? Regarding those NL things and the cheeks, Rosina has lifted hers with the exercises and I'm noticing a difference as well. I also find that massage and pressing at them seems to flatten them out.

Thanks and yes that is me in the picture....It may look as though I have cheeks in that photo (and I took that one a few days ago) but, I have a semi-smurk on my face...I have learned the art of "hiding" my sagging cheeks when I need to....so when I do this partial smurk, my cheeks pop back up where they are supposed to be. When my face is relaxed and in normal position, they droop right back down and the sagging is apparent. Might I add that I can't smile all the time!! ha ha.... I am thankful for the many problems I don't have and that I've been blessed with good genes from mom...but we are our worst critic and the one thing that really bothers me about myself are the NL's and cheek droop....I have a stomach that looks like a deflated balloon from having 3 kids that doesn't bother me as much as the face...
